A new voter!

I did it! I filled out the super easy form, photocopied my ID, and popped it in the mail to put my name on the voters list! I thought this process would be more complicated/possibly more interesting but alas, very boring but easy which is important. If you haven't registered yet, there is still time AND you can vote if not on the voters list (see City of Barrie website for this info).

A little background on where I'm coming from...if you are reading this you probably already know me but I'm going to fill you in anyway:
FACT: I grew up in the Barrie area but have never actually lived in Barrie until last year.
FACT: As a result of the above point, I have never voted in a Barrie municipal election, or voted in the Barrie riding for any election...
FACT: Even though I never lived "in" Barrie, I was immersed in Barrie political society from my parents (ok my dad) from a young age and had many a night of disappointment when I couldn't watch my favourite show Monday night because we were watching the council meeting...
FACT: I am a bit of a part-time political nerd and enjoy this kind of stuff, if I can't marry a Trudeau I might as well find another way to get my politico fix.

Now that you know a little bit about me, how about we learn a little bit about the names on the ballot. There are EIGHT (8) men running for Mayor this election year. Some have already spent time representing our fine city either at a municipal or provincial level. The experience ranges similar to the range of money spent on election material - seriously, I have 3 of their pamphlets spread in front of me, it seems they have spent more time trying NOT to be like each other than deciding on content...but thats another blog another night...

Three weeks today we will all be sitting around our tvs waiting for the next mayor of Barrie to be announced! (ok probably actually watching How I met your mother or Dancing with the Stars but one can pretend...)
