In 2006 less than 31% of eligible voters went to the polls. A source tells me that essentially, 3000 people could decide who is running Barrie's next council. I'm not sure about you, but that is slightly disturbing to me.
The usual arguments for why people don't vote are flying around on radio, television and by water coolers (do those still exist in most offices?) but the fact is, if you don't vote you can't complain about government AND you will never know if your vote could have made a difference.
In this blog I hope to break down the 8 people who are running for Mayor in the City of Barrie. I will provide links for where you can find more information (sources!) and my own, hopefully, entertaining and educational commentary.
I realize that by writing a political commentary there is a high chance of offending others. That is not my intention. However, if I am not honest what is the point in writing at all? Its not like I'm being paid :) I will do my best to be transparent in my biases. Please comment with your own ideas and info requests.
The election is coming up on October 25 and I have a lot of learning to do to make an informed decision. So please join me in my journey in choosing which box to check off on the 25th.
